He’s with you. And that’s the promise.

I’ve been thinking about the facade it is that we will reach a point in our lives when all the “i’s” are dotted and “t’s” are crossed; when everything is “as it should be”; as we want it to be. There isn’t a season in life when we aren’t waiting for something. When things aren’t happening in our families, social worlds, jobs, churches, finances, ministries..”

Life is messy and it’s beautiful that way. We’d be wrong to think that it would be sweeter any other way. And I’ll you why. Because if life weren’t messy and broken, and full of tears and trials we wouldn’t know the deepest, widest, purest love that’s chasing after us.

In the midst of our lives we are faced, in every circumstance, every battle, every conversation, every relationship, with a choice. To live like orphans in a world of brokenness or like children of the God whose the throne of  the kingdom.

Faith or fear.

Hope or doubt.

Anxiety or joy.

My choice is to accept the invitation of my Father to remain under His covering of mercy and peace. I choose faith, I choose hope, and I choose joy.

I choose to believe in His word and His promise. That He is with me. And if He is with me that is enough.

“When you pass through the waters,
    I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
    they will not overwhelm you.
When you walk through the fire,
    you will not be burned;
    the flames will not consume you.” (Is. 43:2)

“I am with you” -God

This is His word. His promise.

“So do not fear, for I am with you;
    do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
    I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (Is. 41:10)

“I will strengthen you. Help you. Uphold you” – God

I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.” (Gen. 28:15)

“I will not leave you. I will complete my promise to you” – God

“They will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the Lord” (Jer. 1:19)

The battle will come. But I am with you. You will not be defeated” -God

God is with you, He will strengthen you, help you, uphold you. He will not leave you, but will complete his promise to you. Even when the battles come He is with you and you will not be defeated.

I don’t know about you, but I was just washed with peace.

 His presence is good. Better than we can understand I think.

“So when you are assembled … I am with you in spirit, …the power of our Lord Jesus is present” (1 Cor. 5:4)

“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom” (2 Cor. 3:17)

“In your presence there is fullness of joy” (Ps. 16:11)

It’s in His presence that we find our freedom, our joy, and our strength. It’s in His presence that we seek his face; we can see who we are when we see who He is. It’s in His presence that we are changed. That we are filled and filled again and again.

Life is messy and it’s beautiful. It’s a journey. It’s in the process of the journey that our lives become platforms. What they were always meant to be. We need to stop trying to get places and get busy being in the process. So God can be God for us. So He can show up in all his glory, all his power, his goodness, grace, and mercy.

He’s with us. He’s with us because He’s loves us. He loves us because He loves because He loves us. What good news. What a promise.

Forget about dotting the “i‘s” and crossing the “t‘s” in this life. They’re a lie most of the time anyways; trying to distract us from the fact that we’re loved. And that we’re so taken care of. Every battle already has a stamp of victory. Every situation already has pre-assigned provision. Every relationship has a promise of wholeness.

Start seeking the hand of God in your life. Start seeking his glory in your process, in your mess. I promise you’re gonna find some treasure in that pursuit.
